The bathroom is a commonly used part of the house and needs routine maintenance. An unkempt bathroom accumulates dirt, mold, and bad smells, but a clean bathroom serves as a healing space for the mind and body. Discover six tips for turning your bathroom into a healthy environment.

1. Organize Everything

Finding what you need is hard in a cluttered bathroom, which can also serve as an inviting home to unwanted pests. If your drawers are overflowing with cleaners, toilet paper, and other commodities, consider organizing them.

Use baskets to keep liquid supplies and cleaning products. Place products that you use a lot in your medicine cabinet or inside a basket near the sink. If your bathroom doesn't have a towel rack, think about installing one.

2. Switch to Liquid Soap

Bar soaps tend to disintegrate when exposed to lots of water, leading to messes on your sink and bathtub. And, if you share the same soap with other people, germs and bacteria can grow on the bar.

Liquid soap cuts back the mess because it remains in its container. You can store the soap in a hands-free dispenser to minimize the spread of germs. To improve the style of your bathroom, try adding soap dispensers that match the decor.

3. Change the Decor

Your time in the bathroom should be enjoyable, even if it's only for a few minutes. Decorate the walls with pictures or wall art to liven up the room. If your bathroom has enough space, install a bathroom shelf to store decorations and air fresheners. Make sure to update the decor now and then so the room won't feel bland.

4. Reduce the Mildew Count

Mold and mildew like to grow in wet places, and your bathroom is one such place. The water-loving fungus causes your bathroom to smell bad and is dangerous for your health. To limit mold growth, minimize the presence of water in your bathroom.

Open the door or windows to let the steam out after a hot shower or turn on the bathroom exhaust fan to divert the vapors outside. Install mildew-resistant curtains in your bathtub to prevent mildew growth. Be sure to close the curtains so the water can drain out from the crevices. For shower stalls, use a cloth or shower squeegee to remove the excess water. You can also clean the bathroom with mildew-fighting products such as bleach to deter fungal growth.

5. Clean the Bathroom Often

Another way to keep your bathroom healthy is by cleaning the bathroom once a week. However, if you have a busy schedule, discover some simple tasks you can do to keep your bathroom clean:

  • Wipe your sink after every use with a wet cloth or sponge to remove dirt.
  • Use long-lasting cleaners to keep your bathroom tidy.
  • Wash your floor mats once a week to remove dust and dirt.
  • Give the floor a quick sweep when you can.

Even if it isn't much, cleaning some parts of your bathroom goes a long way in maintaining a healthy setting.

6. Rethink Your Shower

If you have a framed shower, trying to keep it clean might be a struggle. Water can enter into spaces in the frame and cause problems such as mold growth and rust. If you aren't fond of your bathtub, consider getting a frameless shower.

Frameless showers are easy to clean and maintain because no frame is available for water or mold to accumulate. A frameless shower can give your bathroom a modern appearance and make the room feel more spacious.
